About

My current position as digital engagement editor is a management role directly responsible for all online and social media platforms. Our website sees 300k users and over 1 million page views each month, with a social media following far larger than the size of our distribution area.

As the company’s first hire for its Newsroom of the Future initiative, I’ve grown website traffic by 35-45% each year, surpassing all company goals. Our social audience has seen tremendous growth, with a year one increase of 56 percent for Facebook and 40 percent for Instagram.

I am driven by data, using analytics to drive strategies and increase ROI. In my role I have exponentially increased the amount of multimedia we produce for enhanced online storytelling.

As a former arts and entertainment editor, I have solid experience writing and editing content for a daily section on top of a magazine-style weekly publication targeted to visitors.

Working in a strict deadline-driven environment, I have had to become exceedingly efficient and self-motivated. As a journalist I am able to adapt and write for a broad range of topics. I am quick to teach myself new techniques and tools, while then passing that knowledge to my team.

I began my journalism career as an intern for Marquee Magazine in Boulder, Colorado, before moving on to news editor for The Examiner in Independence, Missouri. In 2010, itching to get back to the mountains, I packed up my car and headed West. With my dog as copilot, I rambled around for three months, camping, hiking and exploring seven states and a multitude of national parks. While in Utah, a friend pushed me to apply for jobs in Colorado ski towns, which led me to Summit County right before winter. Like many other mountain newbies, I did a quick stint working at a ski resort in the HR department before jumping back into journalism at the Summit Daily News in 2013.

I’m an avid traveler, reader, foodie, snowboarder and yogi. I’ve spent the last year and a half living abroad in Utila, Honduras, trading my snowboard in for a snorkel. Let’s talk — about work, food, the Caribbean — email me at heatherjarviscreative@gmail.com.
